LKT wins "Deal of the Year" award for Hungary for the second year

Lakatos, Köves & Partners (LKT) won the "Deal of the Year" award for Hungary for 2018 for its work alongside Slaughter & May on the Hungarian aspects of Vodafone’s acquisition of Liberty Global’s operations in Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania.  LKT won the “Deal of the Year” award for Hungary for 2017 for its work on Waberer’s IPO.

The winning Hungarian deal, Vodafone’s acquisition of Liberty Global’s assets in several countries, was concluded for an enterprise value of €18.4 billion. With this transaction, Vodafone became the leading next generation network owner in Europe with 54 million cable/fibre homes ‘on-net’ and a total NGN reach of 110 million homes and businesses, including wholesale arrangements.

The awards gala was held on 28 March, 2019 at the Budapest Marriott Hotel, attended by lawyers from across the CEE region and from London. Enchanting piano music was provided by LKT Managing Partner Péter Lakatos together with renowned pianist and composer Jenő Esze.

“The significance of the Vodafone deal was, ultimately, impossible for the two tiers of voters to ignore, and Lakatos Köves & Partners played a critical role in making it happen,” said CEE Legal Matters Executive Editor David Stuckey. “We were pleased that the voters recognized the deal’s significance, and personally delighted that Péter Lakatos was able to join us at the event and accept it in person. That’s an experience we expect to see repeated many times in the years to come.”

“It is a real honour to receive this wonderful award in this very competitive field for the second time,” LKT Managing Partner Péter Lakatos commented. “We are proud to have advised such a significant market player and to have worked alongside Slaughter & May in a transaction of strategic importance for the entire European telecommunications market,” Iván Sólyom added.

LKT’s legal team was led by Péter Lakatos, Managing Partner and Iván Sólyom, Corporate, Telecommunications and Competition Partner.
